Ancient City of Soli & Mosaic Basilica

Ancient coastal kingdom featuring a sea-facing Roman theatre and 4th-century basilica with iconic dolphin mosaics.

Soli was one of the ten historic city-kingdoms of Cyprus, traditionally advised by the Athenian lawgiver Solon. Built on a coastal hillside looking out over Morphou Bay, it flourished through copper mining.

The archaeological site features a hillside Roman amphitheater once seating 3,500 with panoramic coastal views, and an Early Christian basilica preserving intricate mosaic pavements, including the famous 4th-century dolphin motif.

Tips before you go

  • Inspect the renowned 4th-century dolphin mosaic sheltered beneath the protective wooden walkway.
  • Climb to the upper tiers of the Roman theatre for views across Morphou Bay.
  • Just 5 km away stand the clifftop ruins of Vouni Palace.

How to get there

Situated along the Morphou Bay coast, 2 km west of Lefka (Karavostasi).
