Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis Church (UNESCO)

11th-century UNESCO World Heritage church 'St. Nicholas of the Roof' with layered Byzantine fresco cycles.

Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis ('Saint Nicholas of the Roof') is the sole surviving monument of an 11th-century Byzantine monastery near Kakopetria. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The church takes its name from the heavy second pitched timber roof erected in the 13th century to shelter the stone domes from mountain snows. Inside, it boasts virtually an illustrated museum of Byzantine art spanning the 11th through 17th centuries.
