Panagia Phorviotissa (Asinou) UNESCO Painted Church

Crowning jewel of the UNESCO Painted Churches of Troodos, famed for its vivid 1105 AD Comnenian frescoes.

Nestled in a peaceful pine valley south of Nikitari village, the modest steep-roofed church of Panagia Phorviotissa (popularly known as Asinou) conceals one of the greatest treasures of Byzantine art.

Its interior is completely adorned with vibrant frescoes dating from 1105/1106 AD, painted in the refined Constantinopolitan Comnenian style.
