Panagia tou Araka UNESCO Church (Lagoudera)

UNESCO World Heritage mountain church housing the most complete cycle of late Comnenian frescoes (1192 AD).

Standing high on a mountain ridge outside Lagoudera village, Panagia tou Araka is enclosed beneath a protective steep-pitched timber roof with carved wooden lattices.

Inside, the dome and walls preserve an extraordinary, intact cycle of frescoes completed in December 1192 by master painter Theodore Apsevdis.
