Kionia Peak & Machairas Forest Viewpoint

Highest summit in the Machairas mountain range (1,420m) featuring panoramic vistas and scenic pine trails.

Kionia peak (1,420m) is the crowning vantage point of the fragrant Machairas National Forest. The mountain road climbs through dense Calabrian pines, golden oaks, and strawberry trees.

A designated viewing area and picnic site at the summit offer expansive views across the Mesaoria plains, Nicosia, and the distant blue waters of Larnaca Bay. Several prime nature trails originate here.

Tips before you go

  • The Kionia picnic site provides drinking fountains, picnic tables, and scenic timber lookouts.
  • The 7 km Kionia to Vavatsinia nature trail offers magnificent ridge hiking.
  • Combine with a cultural visit to the historic Machairas Monastery just below.

How to get there

Follow the uphill paved forestry road 6 km past Machairas Monastery towards Kionia picnic ground.
