Saint Herakleidios Convent (Politiko)

Historic nunnery built over the tomb of St. Herakleidios, consecrated by Apostles Paul and Barnabas in 45 AD.

Saint Herakleidios Convent stands upon the hallowed burial place of the island's first bishop of Tamassos, baptized by the Apostles Paul and Barnabas. Founded during Early Christian times, it preserves 5th-century floor mosaics.

Maintained with devotion by the resident sisterhood, the convent grounds are famed for pristine flower gardens, fragrant citrus orchards, and an underground rock crypt holding the saint's skull relic.

Tips before you go

  • Visit the ancient subterranean stone crypt containing the saint's tomb.
  • Purchase artisanal fruit preserves, honey, and herbal teas made by the sisters.
  • Respectful modest dress is strictly observed on monastery grounds.
