Fikardou Heritage Village (UNESCO Tentative)

Living museum of 18th-century vernacular architecture preserved untouched on the slopes of the Troodos foothills.

Fikardou is a virtually uninhabited stone village frozen in time on the eastern slopes of the Troodos range. Awarded the prestigious Europa Nostra diploma, it is preserved under strict antiquities protection.

The 18th-century stone dwellings with timber balconies and red curved roof tiles reflect authentic rural Cypriot life. Restored manor houses such as Katsinioros House and Achilleas House serve as folk museums with historic wine presses and flour mills.

Tips before you go

  • Tour Katsinioros House to see how an affluent 18th-century peasant family lived and made wine.
  • Dine at the village taverna Giannakos for slow-cooked kleftiko in the courtyard.
  • Wear flat walking shoes for the steep, uneven cobblestone lanes.

How to get there

40 km southwest of Nicosia via Klirou and Gourri along scenic winding mountain roads.
