Apostolos Andreas Monastery (Cape Karpaz)

Venerated pilgrimage monastery situated near the far eastern tip of Cyprus, featuring a coastal holy spring.

Apostolos Andreas Monastery stands near the eastern extremity of Cyprus. Tradition holds that during Saint Andrew's maritime journey, his vessel grounded on rocks here; the apostle struck the cliff with his staff, causing a miraculous spring of freshwater to burst forth.

The 19th-century church has been restored under bicommunal heritage initiatives. Below the sea-facing terrace, stone steps lead to the original holy spring emerging just inches above the waves.

Tips before you go

  • Walk down the steps beneath the chapel to collect water from the sacred coastal spring.
  • Bring carrots or apples in your car: friendly wild donkeys await travelers along the road.
  • Continue 5 km further to reach the actual tip of Cyprus at Cape Apostolos Andreas.

How to get there

Located at the far eastern end of Cyprus, 25 km east of Dipkarpaz village.
