Lara Turtle Bay & Conservation Station

Pristine horseshoe nature reserve where loggerhead and green turtles nest undisturbed on golden sands.

One of the Mediterranean's most crucial turtle breeding sanctuaries. A sweeping, completely undeveloped horseshoe bay dedicated to the survival of endangered Green and Loggerhead turtles.

During nesting season, wire cages mark and protect egg clutches from ghost crabs and foxes. There are zero beach bars, umbrellas, or power lines — purely untamed raw nature.

Tips before you go

  • Standard hire cars violate rental contracts on this rocky dirt track — hire a 4x4 or quad.
  • Sticking personal beach umbrellas into the sand is banned to protect buried eggs.
  • Bring plenty of drinking water, a wide hat, and food, as there are no services on site.

How to get there

12 km north of Agios Georgios Pegeias along the rough unpaved coastal trail. 4WD recommended.
