Avakas Gorge Nature Trail

Awe-inspiring limestone canyon with 30m sheer curved walls narrowing to just 3 meters, lush ferns, and suspended boulder.

A premier natural masterpiece carved by a mountain torrent over thousands of years. The trek leads into a dramatic subterranean chasm where limestone cliffs soar 30 meters high.

At its narrowest pinch point, daylight barely reaches the mossy canyon floor, and an iconic giant boulder hangs wedged between the sheer rock faces.

Tips before you go

  • Wear sturdy hiking shoes with grip — you will be stepping on wet stream pebbles.
  • Never enter the gorge during wet weather or storms.
  • Park at the designated lot near Viklari Taverna and walk 15 minutes along the track to the canyon mouth.

How to get there

North of Paphos via Agios Georgios Pegeias. Follow dirt track past Toxeftra beach.
