Smigies Nature Trail & Picnic Site

Ridge trail in the Akamas heights offering dual panoramas of both the eastern and western Cyprus coastlines.

Perched 400 meters high above Neo Chorio village, Smigies is the most accessible hiking gateway to the Akamas wilderness reachable by regular two-wheel-drive cars.

The circular path (short 2.5 km or long 5 km loops) wanders through maritime pines, wild thyme, and endemic cyclamens. The high ridge reveals sweeping views across Chrysochou Bay on one side and Lara turtle coast on the other.

Tips before you go

  • Fully accessible on paved roads up to the picnic area with any standard rental car.
  • Shaded wooden tables and mountain spring water fountains at the trailhead.
  • Take the 5 km loop to discover historic disused magnesite mines.

How to get there

From Polis or Latchi, drive up through Neo Chorio village following signs to Smigies Picnic Site.
