Kornos Village & Red Clay Pottery Cooperative

Historic pottery village keeping ancient Bronze Age terracotta handcrafting traditions alive on foot-powered wheels.

Nestled in pine-clad hills, Kornos is world-renowned for its heritage red clay pottery. For centuries, the women of Kornos have shaped terracotta vessels using clay extracted from nearby foothill deposits.

At the village pottery cooperative, visitors can watch master artisans spin pots, baking dishes (tavas), and ornate amphorae on authentic foot-turned wheels exactly as their ancestors did.

Tips before you go

  • Watch the potters at work and purchase genuine handmade clay cookware directly from the kilns.
  • Kornos terracotta dishes are revered for slow-baking traditional Cypriot kleftiko.
  • Combine with a walk through the surrounding fragrant pine forests.
