Choirokoitia Neolithic Settlement

One of the most important prehistoric sites in the Mediterranean (7000–4000 BC) with reconstructed round houses (UNESCO).

A UNESCO World Heritage treasure dating back 9,000 years to the Aceramic Neolithic era. The ancient village occupied a defensible hillside in the Maroni River valley.

Highlights include reconstructed circular mudbrick and stone dwellings at the entrance showing prehistoric daily life, followed by a stone trail ascending into the excavated hilltop ruins.

Tips before you go

  • Step inside the reconstructed round houses at the entrance to understand original architecture.
  • Wear sneakers for the stone staircase trail leading up the archaeological hill.
  • Well-signed informational plaques explain the fascinating finds.

How to get there

Off the A1 motorway directly at the Choirokoitia exit. 25 minutes from either Limassol or Larnaca.
