Larnaca Medieval Castle & Fort

Historic shoreline fortress standing at the southern end of Finikoudes promenade, housing an archaeological museum.

Originally founded during the Byzantine era and rebuilt by the Lusignan Kings in the 14th century, Larnaca Castle guarded the town's southern anchorage. The Ottomans reconstructed it in 1625 before the British utilized it as a prison.

Today the courtyard houses an array of historic cannons, while the upper-floor museum exhibits Early Christian and medieval weaponry, pottery, and architectural carvings.

Tips before you go

  • Climb to the upper battlements for uninterrupted panoramas of Finikoudes Beach.
  • The open-air courtyard frequently hosts summer concerts and cultural events.
  • Just behind the castle lies the historic Turkish-Cypriot quarter of Skala.

How to get there

Located at the southern terminus of Athenon Avenue (Finikoudes promenade).
