Sanctuary of Aphrodite at Palaepaphos (Kouklia)

UNESCO World Heritage sanctuary where the cult of Aphrodite flourished, paired with a Lusignan manor museum.

Palaepaphos (Old Paphos), located at modern Kouklia, was the most famous pilgrimage center for the worship of Aphrodite in the ancient world, mentioned by Homer in the Odyssey.

Visitors can explore Late Bronze Age megalithic sanctuary walls, Roman mosaics, and a 13th-century Lusignan Royal Manor housing the sacred black conical stone of the goddess.

Tips before you go

  • Don't miss the conical black basalt stone of Aphrodite inside the medieval manor museum.
  • Combine with a stop at Aphrodite's Rock (Petra tou Romiou) just 10 minutes east.
  • Kouklia village square right next door is great for lunch.

How to get there

14 km east of Paphos off the A6 highway at the Kouklia exit.
